In 2017, the Renaissance Society presented Song, featuring newly commissioned works alongside recent projects by Alejandro Cecarco. Including video and prints, this poetic installation suggested themes of duration, refusal, repetition, and affective forms.

Centering on two related videos, Cesarco invited close reflection on the passage of time, demands on productivity, the potentials of re-reading, and the contingencies of meaning.

The image on this poster is one of a series of prints, Vanitas (From Remorse to Regret) (2017), which depict the principal tropes of the still life genre that was popular in the Netherlands in the 17th century. Cesarco manipulates these tropes to place different modes of relating to the past in close relief, drawing out their subtle gaps and complexities.
